22 Boats Compete In Shoals Fishing Tournament

Twenty-two boats competed in the 23rd Annual Shoals Section Bass Tournament in Florence in May, where Mike Davis, fishing in a Smith General Contractors boat, caught the biggest fish, which weighed 5 lbs., 10ozs. Click on link at bottom of home page to see pictures.

Davis and his partner, Phillip Darby, won the top prize for total boat catch with a haul of 19 lbs. As a result, since participants could win only one prize, Clint Bigbee won the actual Big Fish prize with a 4 lb., 4 oz. large mouth.

Second and third place boat catches were, respectively, Bill Strickland and Henry Hagood, fishing in a Johnson Contractors/AGC boat, with a 14 lbs., 8 ozs. catch, and Gary Puckett and Hal Berry, also fishing in a Johnson Contractors boat, with a total catch of 14 lbs., 8 ozs.

Hagood caught the second largest fish, which weighed 5 lbs., 1 oz.

Shoals tournament sponsors were: B Electric, Bama Concrete, Blue Star Ready Mix USA, Bigbee Steel, C&H Heating and Cooling, Johnson Contractors, Nelson Service Group, Rogers Group, Shoals Electric, Smith General Contractors, and Vulcan Materials.
