Some 200 Alabama AGC members and their families enjoyed the beach, golf and tennis – and, of course, a visit by the governor, lieutenant governor and the commissioner of agriculture — at the Annual Chapter Convention in Sandestin in June. 2014 Alabama AGC Chapter Convention Pictures.
Alabama AGC President Larry Hall welcomed everyone to the convention, saying he was glad to see such good participation at the annual event.
“It’s great to see you all here,” Hall told the crowd at the Friday business meeting. “We are honored today to have Gov. (Robert) Bentley, Lt. Gov. Kay (Ivey), Commissioner of Agriculture John McMillan and of course AGC of America President Al Landis. The crowd and the honored guests speak volumes for the Alabama AGC.”
Gov. Bentley echoed President Hall’s enthusiasm, saying: “Let me tell you how much I appreciate your endorsement. Ya’ll do a fantastic job and you have helped me bring jobs to the state and that is our number one issue.
“Our construction jobs have not been where they should be, but our manufacturing jobs are doing well. Tourism and other sectors have done well. This month, construction jobs were up and we watch this every month. This is going to be a campaign issue.”
The governor reiterated his support for the industry, saying that “we need to make sure we have enough (funding) for highways. We are paying less right now than we did for highways and if we are going to have good roads and bridges in this state we are going to have to come up with a good way to fund them. I am not going to be a caretaker governor.
“Let’s continue to work together. Ya’ll are just like me and you want this state to thrive. I want you to make a profit and be able to build more things because that means you are creating jobs. Thank you for having me down.”
