The Birmingham Section started 2015 with a political reception at the Murray Building Co. jobsite at the old Merita Bread Bakery. More than 150 members were in attendance with city and state officials. Everyone enjoyed a tour of the site as well as barbecue from Joe McNabb and Hendrix Chevrolet.

It Doesn't Get Any Better

Alabama AGC has a long and productive history.

We wrote and passed the competitive bid law, passed the hugely successful Go Build Legislation and this year alone we started a scholarship foundation and wrote and passed the transformational workforce legislation, the Alabama AGC Craft Training Act, that will generate $5 million annually to train open shop craftsmen for the industry.

Of course we also started CompTrustAGC more than 30 years ago when the workers’ compensation market was in turmoil.  CompTrustAGC – to say the least – has done its job, stabilizing the market and providing a crucial benefit to our members and the industry in which they work.  $83 million in assets, $42 million in members’ equity, AM Best rating.  Those things speak for themselves.

But the Alabama AGC is itself a financial powerhouse with offices in Florence, Huntsville, Birmingham, Montgomery and Mobile, a staff of 22, more than $10 million in reserves and a $3.5 million annual budget.

So, we have a lot of money.  What does that mean to contractors and to the industry?

Alabama AGC also has a philosophy that the Board of Directors sets policy and the staff implements it.  Those financial resources mean that we are the only construction trade association in Alabama that can affect real change, we can implement the policy set by the industry.

This year the Alabama AGC was voted Chapter of the Year nationally, the third time we have been so honored in the last 10 years.  So, when you join the Alabama AGC and take advantage of our best-in-class CompTrustAGC program, you are also joining the best construction trade association – not just in the state – but in the country.
