Johnny Rouse and Nick Rouse with Alabama AGC finished first in total boat catch at the 29th Annual Shoals Fishing Tournament with 18-lb 11-oz. They also snagged the largest fish of the tournament with a weight of 6 lbs 4 oz. Jim West and Josh West with Alabama AGC were the big fish prize winner with a 5-lb., 13-oz. mammoth fish.
Some 60 fishermen competed in the tournament on May 8th on Wilson and Pickwick Lakes. The Shoals Section introduced the Billy Smith Trophy this year. Billy Smith was instrumental in the start of the Shoals Section Bass Tournament 29 years ago. He served as chairman of the bass committee until his retirement in 2009. The winners of the Shoals Section Bass Tournament each year will have their names engraved on the award trophy displayed in the Alabama AGC office in Florence.
The Shoals fishing tournament is the second of three tournaments that earns a fisherman the Henry T. Hagood Trophy.
In second place with 18lbs 3oz were Willie Taylor and Shawn Davis with Jesse Stutts. Finishing third with in third place was Danny Province and Danny Joe Province with MG Roofing and total weight of 15lbs 3 oz.
