City of Birmingham Passes Ordinance That Raises Price of Business License

The Birmingham City Council adopted a new ordinance on April 21 that will raise the license fee for contractors performing work in Birmingham resulting in some cases a substantial increase from the previous fees paid, particularly for those located within the City of Birmingham.

To be effective January 1, 2016, this ordinance will go from a flat license fee to fee taxed on gross receipts for work performed in Birmingham.

Alabama AGC established a task force to address this issue and review the legality of the ordinance.  Task force representatives are working with the City officials and other industry representatives to address the ordinance and the resulting fee structure.

We will provide an update once that work has been accomplished.
