The United States Department of Labor is planning a Davis-Bacon Prevailing Wage Rate Survey in Alabama from August, 2015 through February, 2016. The Alabama AGC will be hosting a question and answer meeting with USDOL representatives at 9 a.m., Aug. 27 at the AGC Headquarters building in Irondale.
Participation in this survey is critical to open shop contractors so that the DOL can obtain a true prevailing wage and set reasonable rates on federal work.
This survey will cover Jan. 1, 2013-Dec. 31, 2014 on Building and Heavy construction projects that were active during that time, said LaDonna Vick, USDOL wage analyst. The survey includes all counties in Alabama.
“Information must be postmarked by the Feb. 29 deadline to be used in the survey,” she said.
Vick said the formula for determining a wage rate is somewhat complicated. However, historically a prevailing rate is not an average, but the rate that appears the most in the sample collected. Therefore, open shop contractors must participate in the survey to provide a realistic picture of wages in Alabama.
