The Birmingham Section started 2015 with a political reception at the Murray Building Co. jobsite at the old Merita Bread Bakery. More than 150 members were in attendance with city and state officials. Everyone enjoyed a tour of the site as well as barbecue from Joe McNabb and Hendrix Chevrolet.

Business and Community Leaders Work Together to Improve Roads

START YOUR ENGINES.

The time is now to advocate that the Legislature improve Alabama roads and bridges. Without your involvement this will not become a reality.  Safe and effective road and bridge infrastructure is essential to keeping Alabama economically competitive -- to attract and retain job creators, keep drivers and passengers safe, and maintain a high quality of life for our citizens.

Like many states across the country, the current sources of funding for Alabama's infrastructure are not sufficient to substantially address, much less meet, the capacity, safety, and access needs across the state.

Earlier today, the House Transportation, Utilities and Infrastructure Committee gave a favorable report to both HB 394 by Rep. Mac McCutcheon, R-Huntsville, and SB 180 by Sen. Gerald Dial, R-Lineville. HB 394 would generate additional revenue for Alabama roads and bridges, and it follows SB 180 that ensures revenue generated by McCutcheon's bill will be spent on roads and bridges. The bills are now in position for consideration on the House floor, making Tuesday's drive-in critical to the bills' success.

The Alliance for Alabama's Infrastructure, a group of business and community leaders, believes that now is time for Alabama to address this growing problem with a reasonable long-term solution that puts Alabama's transportation infrastructure back in working order and allows us to invest in our future.

Join the AAI Drive-In and show your support for a solution to fix our roads and bridges and invest in Alabama's future! Legislators need to hear directly from you both in Montgomery and when they are at home.  A strong grassroots driven effort is the only way that legislators will have the courage to invest in Alabama roads and bridges this year.  Make your voice heard in Montgomery!
