The Birmingham Section started 2015 with a political reception at the Murray Building Co. jobsite at the old Merita Bread Bakery. More than 150 members were in attendance with city and state officials. Everyone enjoyed a tour of the site as well as barbecue from Joe McNabb and Hendrix Chevrolet.

AIA A201 2017 Edition of their General Conditions Contract Document

Dear Alabama AGC Chapters:

You may have question about the American Institute of Architects' (AIA) release of the AIA A201 General Conditions Document and other related documents. AIA updates their documents once every ten years, and the new AIA editions were released at the end of last week at the AIA convention.

AIA did not ask for AGC's input in developing the 2017 AIA contract documents. The AGC Contract Documents Forum has formed a working group to evaluate the new AIA A201 and will provide analysis to AGC members (feel free to send me names of member volunteers interested in assisting). You may recall that in 2007 and with significant chapter input, AGC's Board unanimously voted NOT to endorse the AIA contract documents. AGC does not sell AIA documents and AGC members do not receive a discount on AIA documents. Also note, that the 2007 edition will be available for 18 months.

Alternatively, AGC endorses ConsensusDocs contracts. AGC actively participates in the drafting of ConsensusDocs and AGC members get a 20% discount (discount code AGC100). Here is a numerical comparison chart of AIA and ConsensusDocs documents.

Warmest Regards,
Brian Perlberg, Esq.
