AGC Prior Approval Action Alert

As you may know, AGC of America is part of a coalition that is working hard to repeal the prior approval requirement for PACs of corporate-member trade associations.

To help our cause, Congressman Mark Amodei (R-NV-2) has taken the lead on this issue in Congress, and has sponsored H.R. 2101 – the Prior Approval Reform Act.  This legislation would repeal the prior approval requirement that is unfairly imposed upon and discriminates against corporate-member trade association PACs.

Contact your US representative to urge him or her to support the repeal of the burdensome prior approval requirement by co-sponsoring H.R. 2101 - the Prior Approval Reform Act.

This legislation would repeal the prior approval requirement that is unfairly imposed upon and discriminates against corporate-member trade association PACs, like AGC PAC.

Under the Federal Election Campaign Act, your company is required to grant written approval to the national PAC if individuals on the administrative/executive team would like to learn more about the PAC and/or be solicited to contribute.  No other political entity, including corporate, labor union, and individual membership association PACs, is subject to the prior approval requirement.

AGC members have a constitutional right to join together in support of or in opposition to candidates for political office. Requiring prior approval discourages our members from participating in the national association's PAC, and creates an unequal playing field that restricts First Amendment rights to free speech.

This burdensome requirement needs to be repealed. Please contact your US representative and urge him or her to co-sponsor H.R. 2101 today!

Lastly, if you have a good relationship with the US representative(s) in your area, please don’t hesitate to call and urge him or her to join as a co-sponsor.  If you would like talking points for such a conversation, we can provide them to you.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact:
